Our Approach to IT
Binary Sharks was formally commissioned in 2007 after almost 20 years of observing (and participating in) various models of IT, Phone, and Software Support. Many consulting organizations are either pushing “Time and Materials”support where there is little incentive to keep things running properly or “Managed Services” contracts where the incentive is to keep things running as cheaply and quickly as possible. Our philosophy is to take the positives out of each of those models and operate as a mixture of both. For those organizations that are looking for a one price per user methodology –we are generally able to provide this after a detailed review of software in use, desktop specifications, and the network infrastructure.
Binary Sharks team members have over 50 years of technology experience. Our lead Solutions Consultant and President, Derek Meixell, is a graduate of RIT’s Information Technology program with concentrations in both Systems and Network Administration.
Derek worked in the IT Consulting field for approximately 10 years moving from an entry level position up to a partner-level executive, managing a team of engineers, who collectively supported business clients as well as a public facing high availability data center. Derek left that role to build and run, as Chief Operating Officer, sales and operations for a Rochester-based wholesale Voice over IP carrier that had a worldwide footprint providing high availability voice services for its customers. This resulted in the design and configuration of multiple data centers in Los Angeles, CA and Rochester, NY. Following that role,Derek spent time assisting with project management and operational improvements for world-wide manufacturing company. Derek then moved on to running the Client Services division of a software provider who developed and sold their own custom application built on the Salesforce platform supporting enterprise level Non-Profit Associations. Finally, deciding to move back into IT Consulting with the ultimate goal to build a company that stands out in within the space, Derek and his wife, Leah, formally incorporated Binary Sharks.
Binary Sharks started small to define our processes with a limited scope of clients. We have refined our solutions and services so that we can effectively support wide variety of verticals in locations throughout the United States.
Our clients range in size from one seat in one location, to clients with multiple offices, to clients with over 700 users across multiple offices and retail stores.
